Plan the application in order
The study route starts with an offer from a state-recognised institution and the German mission responsible for your residence. A programme can also require documented language proficiency. Use the mission’s document list for the exact nationality and degree; a visa for seeking a study place has a different purpose and financial test from a visa after admission.
Tuition, visa evidence and actual spending
The German government’s study-visa guide cites at least €11,904 in 2026 as blocked-account evidence for living expenses and also accepts specified alternatives such as a scholarship or declaration of commitment. That evidence is not the university’s tuition or semester contribution and it is not a promise that housing in your chosen city will cost exactly that amount. Some Baden-Württemberg institutions separately charge non-EU tuition.
Insurance, work and what follows study
A study residence permit permits work subject to published limits, including 140 full or 280 half days per year under the cited 2026 guidance; the rules for a different permit must be checked separately. After a German degree, the government describes a distinct jobseeker residence route of up to 18 months rather than automatic post-study work status. DAAD explains that accepted health-insurance cover must be proved for enrolment and sometimes for the visa; verify your own coverage before arrival.
